Renewing Open Allocation Students

A guide to how open allocation students are renewed

Updated over a week ago

Open Allocation student insurance is our most popular type of student service, as it offers clubs plenty of flexibility to reconcile and 'blanket cover' students based on the club's evolving needs. Renewing open allocation students can present a few question marks, which we'll try and answer here;

Renewing A Like For Like Number of Students On Renewal

If you're renewing via MyBMABA with a like for like number of students, we'll roll forward the current block in your portal.

For example, if you have 100 registered students for the period 01/01/2023 - 01/01/2024 and on renewal, you renew 100 open allocation students, we'll roll this block forward to 01/01/2024 - 01/01/2025.

Renewing A Differing Number of Students On Renewal

Unless agreed otherwise, if you're renewing an unmatched number of open allocation students, we'll add them on afresh if there's less than the current number, or we'll try and match up if there's more.

For example, if you have 100 registered students for the period 01/01/2023 - 01/01/2024 and on renewal, you renew 60 open allocation students, we'll add 60 new students onto the current expired 100.

By contrast, if you have 100 registered students and you renew 160 students, we'll roll forward the existing 100, and add on 60 more.

Whilst we appreciate that can mean a little more work reconciling names, it's impossible for us to pre-empt which of your current batch of students need to be rolled forward. Open allocation students are very inexpensive compared with

Rules on Reconciling Names & Dates

Here's a few points to remember when it comes to reconciling dates and names;

  • You don't have to reconcile names in our portal, provided you keep accurate club records your end to show who is registered, who is not, and when students joined you in the event of a claim.

  • If you find the MyBMABA portal a little too slow for large data changes, we can grant free access to the enterprise portal, which is much faster and more 'spreadsheet-like'.

  • We can manually reconcile renewals for you, but this does carry an administration charge as it's very time-consuming. This charge is typically around £10 for up to 100 students, and £10 for every subsequent 100 students thereafter. You can request this with us via web chat or email if you'd like our team to manually move-forward blocks, and reconcile student names for you.
