Insuring Assistant Instructors
Updated over a year ago

No instructor insurance is available for assistant instructors.

This is following a review of available cover with our insurers. It is felt that as an assistant instructor will never be left to teach without your supervision, provided a BMABA qualified and insured instructor is present at all times, their assistance can be covered by the active BMABA instructor insurance by extension. This should help to preserve cashflow at club level and prevents us providing you with an insurance that can rarely, if ever, be used.

The premise is based on that of a learner driver (as an example). Whilst the learner driver is responsible for turning up to a lesson fit to drive and must act with reasonable due care, ultimately in absence of their negligence it remains the driving instructor’s responsibility to keep the driver and other road users safe. Likewise for you when working with an assistant instructor, it is your responsibility to ensure they have ample training and technical knowledge to undertake the role you assign to them.

If you have any concerns around suitability or any individual insurance considerations please don’t hesitate to raise a ticket with us.
